Inter slip up and city rivals AC Milan pounce to turn up the heat in the Scudetto race. Elsewhere around Europe this weekend, it seems to have been business as usual for the NFL jerseys
Lionel Messi grabbed a second-half hat-trick as FC Barcelona managed to brush off Valencia 3-0 in the game of the weekend. But Gonzalo Higuain's hat-trick in Real Madrid's 4-1 triumph at Valladolid means the capital club remain top of the tree.
In the race for European spots, Valencia's loss at Barcelona is a blow, but Mallorca failed to capitalise losing 3-0 at Getafe, which allows Sevilla to move into fourth after their 1-1 draw with sixth-placed Deportivo Coruna. Ninth-placed Villarreal might be mounting a challenge after a 2-0 win over bottom-club Xerez.
In the relegation mire, Tenerife's 4-1 win over Espanyol is a big win for the Canary Islands club as they try to climb out of the bottom three, while the 14th-placed Catalans haven't won in four. Neither Santander or Zaragoza could build any significant buffer away from the drop zone after playing out a 0-0 draw.

Bordeaux vs. Lyon: CL Betting Preview
Lyon ran out comfortable victors in the first leg of the all-French quarter-final last Tuesday and I expect them to advance to the last four with something to spare. NFL jerseys
The winners of the tie between the two Ligue 1 clubs will face Manchester United or Bayern Munich for a place in the Madrid showpiece and it is hosts Bordeaux that have it all to do.
The clash at Stade Gerland eight days ago was much more open than anticipated and there could have been a greater number of goals than the four witnessed. Lisandro Lopez (two) and Michel Bastos were the men on target for Claude Puel’s side and Lyon will be confident of defending their 3-1 lead.
While Lyon continued their recent domestic resurgence with a 2-1 win over Rennes on the weekend to edge to the top of the table, Bastos scoring once again, Bordeaux’s hopes of successfully defending their crown were hit by a home loss to Nancy.
Laurent Blanc’s men have been impressive in front of their home fans this campaign but the recent signs are that Bordeaux are struggling to recapture their sensational early-season form and even the return of captain Alou Diarra is unlikely to be enough to see them overturn the deficit.
Lyon travel west possessing French football’s best away record and I’m happy to oppose the home team at a little over even money.
The prolific Lopez will miss out through suspension but French international Bafetimbi Gomis is likely to deputise and I see the visitors scoring.
Having showed enough about them to oust Real Madrid in the last 16, Lyon are tipped to progress to their second Champions League semi-final by securing at least a share of the spoils and an early away goal would virtually settle the tie.
The threat of the talented Marouane Chamakh in attack for the hosts is a concern, he drew the sides level in the first leg, but Lyon have tasted defeat just three times on the road this season and Puel and his players have enough experience to ensure they are not on the back-foot throughout and it could be a fairly routine night if they get off to a flyer.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI FINAL BETTING
We’re down to the final four teams in the Champions League, and this evening sees the NFL jerseys first leg match between Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan and reigning champions Barcelona at the San Siro. Who will be victorious and take an advantage to the Nou Camp next week? BetRepublic.com previews this important and highly anticipated clash.
Inter Milan v Barcelona:
This match will be the fifth occasion that these two sides have met in the Champions League, with the score currently two wins for Barcelona and two draws. Both of these victories for Barcelona have come at the Nou Camp and the draws came at the San Siro. In the four matches Inter Milan have failed to score a single goal, while Barcelona have managed to find the net on five occasions. Will Inter be able to find a goal against the Spanish champions this time around?
Inter have scored five goals in their three games since they dumped CSKA Moscow out of this competition. They drew with Fiorentina in the league before going back three days later and dumping them out of the Coppa Italia. They also defeated Juventus last Friday night to give them two wins and a draw in their three games since progressing to the last four stage of the tournament.
Incidentally, two wins and a draw is exactly what Barcelona have achieved since knocking Arsenal out with a four goal salvo from Lionel Messi. They have also scored five goals in their three games, with two coming in the 2-0 win over Real Madrid and three coming against Deportivo La Coruna in the 3-0 victory. They drew away at Espanyol this weekend and kept their third straight clean sheet in a 0-0 draw.
How do the bookmakers see this match going? William Hill have Barcelona as the favourites at 13/10, with Inter available at 19/10 and the draw is 11/5. I honestly cannot see either of these two sides winning this game, as Inter Milan know how to shackle potent attacking players (see the two matches against Chelsea where Didier Drogba did not get a look in) and have already done so against Barcelona this season when they held them to a 0-0 draw on the opening night of the Champions League. I see this game ending as a draw with either 0-0 (available @ 17/2) or 1-1 (available @ 11/2) the most likely scorelines.
BetRepublic.com Recommends Soccer Betting Tips: Back draw @ 11/5 with there to be less than 2.5 goals @ 4/6 with William Hill.
As we head for the latter end of Europe's top leagues, somehow somebody fixtured a whole bunch of derbies to spice things up. We are in for a great weekend of football.

Special Teams
The Rams welcome placekicker Josh Brown, formerly of Seattle. Brown is one ofSoccer jerseys the best young legs around. Punter Donnie Jones is strong and accurate. Coverage squads are weak and the return units need someone to step up and be the breakout threat.

Commentary: The Brady Effect
AFC QBs
The AFC East has been inSoccer jerseys quarterback flux ever since Brett Favre joined the Jets and Chad Pennington went to the Dolphins. The injury to Brady really opens up the division, which had already been shaken up a bit with the quarterback shuffle that sent Favre to the AFC and Pennington to Miami.
Although Cassel performed well, he is no Tom Brady. The Brady Effect—how his injury reshapes the AFC East—may be massive. Here's the way things shape up if New England's Tom Terrific is out for the entire season or a major part of it.
The Pats either start Cassel or bring in someone like Chris Sims or Dante Culpepper to start. Another option is to start Cassel but sign either Sims or Culpepper as the number two guy, giving the team some veteran insurance if Cassel's performance goes south.
The Jets are looking better after Favre's performance yesterday and the Miami Dolphins, even though they lost to the Jets, aren't looking half-bad either. Watch out, this division has suddenly become competitive. It is not necessarily stronger, it is simply a bit more competitive.
And let's not forget the Buffalo Bills. Starter Trent Edwards had a solid second-half on Sunday as he led his team to a one-sided 34-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks. He tossed one touchdown while going 19-of-30 (63.3%) for 215 yards. Edwards was sacked once and threw no picks. His rating was 95.8.
Patriot Strengths
The fact is simple—the Patriots are now fourth in the division as far a quarterbacking goes. That being said, there is another simple fact to consider—they still have the best receiver in football (Randy Moss) and another fine pass catcher (Wes Welker). Jabar Gaffney is a fine third receiver. Their O-line is respectable and they have some good running backs.
The New England defense is also first-rate. They can win games or at least give Cassel a fighting chance in any contest. The Pats also have one of the best head coaches in the game, a dedicated owner and a fine group of assistants and front office guys. Under coach Bill Belichick, this is a team that has never relied on one person, one game plan or one methodology when it comes to scheming and execution.
Bottom Line
Belichick, his coaches and the team will readily adjust to the situation. Although the Jets and their fans seem pretty heady about meeting the Patriots without Brady, the fact is that Favre still has to deal with the New England defense and the Jets will still need to stop a very talented offense. The true test for any champion is how they perform when the chips are down. The Pats are about to show the rest of the NFL if they are a championship caliber team.
Monday, September 8, 2008 -- It was the shot heard ‘round the football world—the hit that Kansas City safety Bernard Pollard put on New England quarterback Tom Brady’s left leg. Brady, who is considered by many to be the top player in the NFL, screamed out in pain as he went down and was writhing on the ground after the shot by Pollard.
That knocked Brady out of the game, and it may have knocked him out for the entire 2008-2009 season.
Backup Matt Cassel, who had struggled mightily in the preseason, came in and led the team to a 17-10 win. Cassel was 13 of 18 for 152 yards and one touchdown. He threw no picks.
