Assessing Russell's accuracy

In writing up -New Orleans Saints game" target="_new">a preview of the -New Orleans Saints game of last weekend, this prognosticator assessed JaMarcus Russell in part thusly: ...one wonders when the last time a dude who looked to have this much natural ability was this erratic for this long. Russell fires bullets, but Vikings Brett Favre jersey
the occasional duck emerges (on, like, one of every three passes). Sometimes the guy;s precision is admirable ; just one interception in 99 attempts is none too shabby ; but his completion rate is a lamentable 54.5 percent. In response, the virtual inbox for email was increased by one when this writer received a note from a presumed member of Raider Nation, one Brian S. Huth, stating:Dude, you must not have watched the Raiders play much this year. If the receivers could hang onto the ball, his percentage would be over 60%. He;s not erratic like you say.Ouch, that hurts. No, not the critique from the Nation ; attempt to write up the Raiders objectively and sooner or later you grow impervious to those particular slings and arrows ; but rather from the assessment ;you must not have watched the Raiders play much this year.;Geez, in actuality, I;ve spent a goodly amount of my Sundays and/or Mondays watching every single play in every single Oakland game via NFL Network. On the other hand, I;ve been wrong before and would readily admit it; maybe Brian was right ; after all, that now-exactly 50 percent completion rate can;t all be on Russell, right? I mean, the Raiders do have one of the weakest receiving corps in the NFL, what with just under half Russell;s completions (32 of 67) hauled in by non-WRs.So I took notes during the Saints game, noting each and every incompletion in order to assess a little blame. A bonanza of incompletions it was, too, with Russell attempting the second-most passes in a game in his NFL career thus far while recording a lowly 37.1 percent success rate against a suspect Saints aerial defense.A few representative examples (assuming you actually have a life, readers won;t be subjected to an epic-length analysis on each of the 22 misses), with culprit(s) noted, run below.First quarter, 9:57, second-and-6 at the New Orleans 6. In the end zone, Zach Miller beats his man but cannot make the stretching, driving catch on the pass way in front. Fault: Russell.First quarter, 9:52, third-and-6 at the New Orleans 6. Russell threads the needle in triple coverage to find Johnnie Lee Higgins. Unfortunately for him, the TD pass is knocked away. Fault: No fault; good defense.Second quarter, 2:00, third-and-7 at the New Orleans 39. After a series of three running plays plus a scramble, Russell and interim head coach Tom Cable apparently felt some sense of urgency, deciding to go deep here. Javon Walker has a couple of steps on Jason David in single coverage. Sadly, Russell guns the long ball too long, throwing high, long, and convincingly deep into the sideline area. Worse, this miscue essentially hands the ball back to the Saints after Sebastian Janikowski is called upon to attempt a 57-yarder. Fault: Russell.Third quarter, 13:44, third-and-2 at the Oakland 24. Inexplicably not calling for a run play, Russell drops back, does that annoying baseball-pitcher windup he relies on when given a half-second too long to decide and throws well short to Walker. Nearly coming up with the incidental pick, David starts to become the stuff of Sunday night nightmares for Raider Nation. At this point, Russell is now 6 of 16 for the game. Fault: Russell.Third quarter, 6:44, third-and-5 at the Oakland 33. From the shotgun, Russell telegraphs Ashley Lelie a bit and as a result has it picked off for only his second interception of the year to this point. Fault: A bit of Russell, but you knew David was going to get one before the end of the game.Third quarter, 2:58, first-and-10 at the Oakland 46. Russell tosses Darren McFadden an easy one. McFadden can;t hold on, and it;s the third drop of the game by a Raider receiver. Fault: McFadden.Third quarter, 2:52, second-and-10 at the Oakland 46. And then Lelie makes it four for the day on a pass a bit low but catchable. Fault: Lelie.Third quarter, 2:46, third-and-10 at the Oakland 46. Seriously on the run from the pass rush ; and this despite a holding call on Kwame Harris ; Russell avoids a sack and manages to get a bit of a wobbler out to Michael Bush, who drops it. For this they called a timeout? Fault: Bush, with a big assist for the offensive line.Fourth quarter, 13:37, first-and-10 at the Oakland 38. After an incomplete in which Russell and Miller appeared to be on different pages, Russell lofts one way too high for Ronald Curry, and the frustration boils over. Fault: Russell. So in the final analysis, Russell would appear to be at least more erratic 2010 pro bowl 4 Brett Favre Blue jersey
than necessary, as per previous assessment; potentially always a cannon, at times the young QB seems utterly uncertain of either his abilities or his teammates;. However, the six drops on 35 attempts in the Saints game is beyond poor play and blame here is shared by halfbacks and receivers alike. Of course, had those half-dozen miscues been completed, Russell;s line would have read as just 19 of 35, and 54 percent just won;t cut it, either. In any case, surely we can all agree: JaMarcus Russell still has quite a way to go. Not what Raider Nation needs to hear, but hey ;Keep those emails coming! (107)

LaMont Jordan's reps, days may be cut short

running back LaMont Jordan began the season as one of the NFL's hottest running backs. Now, his team may be turning cold on him.The 28-year-old halfback ran for over 400 yards and pair of touchdowns in his first four games with Oakland this season. Since Week 4, however, when the 230-pounder re-aggravated a longtime back injury, Jordan has carried the ball 41 times for just 83 yards in three outings, an atrocious 2.0 yards per attempt. Now, things just continue to get worse. This week, head coach Lane Kiffin told reporters he'd like to see less of 2010 pro bowl Vikings 4 Brett Favre jersey
Jordan and more of 27-year-old backup Justin Fargas, who rushed for 179 yards in relief of Jordan in Week 4 at Miami and last week led the team with 61 yards on the ground. Whether Jordan feels healthy or not, Kiffin has made it clear he likes what he sees in Fargas."That was the plan coming in: we were going to play Justin more," Kiffin told the Sacramento Bee earlier this week. "We like what Justin brings, and he hadn't had very many opportunities of late. We wanted to give him a shot."Last week at Tennessee, Fargas rushed just as many times as Jordan, but registered 45 more yards. This week, in a home contest with the 3-5 Texans, don't be surprised if Fargas begins and ends the game as the team's starter.Even worse for Jordan, it's not just Fargas he has to worry about.Ex-Indianapolis Colts running back Dominic Rhodes returned from a four-game suspension a month ago and will certainly become an increasing factor in the backfield. The 28-year-old has rushed for just 21 yards on nine carries this season, but you'd better expect the Raiders to find a way to use a player they invested two years and $7.5 million in.That means Jordan not only has to fend off Fargas for the starting position -- a battle he may have already lost -- but also struggle with Rhodes for carries. After this Sunday, things may become a bit clearer. It hasn't been announced -- and may never be -- but Fargas, whether he starts or not, will likely take most of the reps on the ground for the Raiders. With Rhodes also in the equation, Jordan may spend the bulk of Sunday on the bench. And with the arrival of rookie Michael Bush off the Non-Football Injury list earlier this week, this all makes for a very hazy long-term future for Jordan with the team that signed him in the offseason of 2005.Bush, a fourth-round pick, walked into his team's Alameda, Calif., practice facility on Wednesday expecting to put together yet another personal workout. According to San Francisco Chronicle writer David White, however, Kiffin "popped the question Bush hadn't heard in more than a year: 'You feel like practicing today?'"Bush practiced, joining Jordan, Rhodes and Fargas in the backfield. It was a bit crowded. Though, it may not remain that way for too36 Bettis White Jersey
long.Kiffin has 21 days to decide whether he'd like to activate Bush to the 53-man roster or release him. After Sunday's home game with the Texans, though, it may become a bit clearer what Kiffin is planning on doing. He might cut someone, but it probably won't be Bush. Don't be shocked to see LaMont Jordan's days with the Raiders end earlier than expected.

D-line facing a daunting task

Here's a scary notion: Oakland's success on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans will likely fall on the shoulders of its defensive line. How scary is that, exactly? The Raiders rank 29th in the NFL in run defense and 25th in the pass-rushing department. If there are two ranks to evaluate how well your defensive line is 6 Super Bowl Champions jersey
producing, it'd be these two. That means Oakland's front four ranks somewhere around 27th overall in the league. Unfortunately, the Titans are not exactly a pushover team or ideal starting point to fix this glaring concern.Tennessee has the fifth-best rushing offense in the NFL (144.0 yards per game) and has allowed only nine sacks this season. In comparison, the Raiders have allowed 17, the NFL-worst Lions have surrendered 31 and the top-ranked Saints have given up just four.As a unit, Oakland's defensive line has registered seven of the team's nine total sacks, but only three have come off the pair of end spots. Furthermore, of the three sacks from the DE spots, only one is from a starter; the other two can be attributed to backup Chris Clemons. That's a substantial problem heading into a meeting with 4-2 Titans, bearing in mind second-year quarterback Vince Young intends on returning to the starting lineup.Young was sidelined last week with a sore right quadriceps, which he suffered on Oct. 14. In the meantime, ex-Raider Kerry Collins has handled the starting reps over the past game-plus for the Titans. Unfortunately, Collins won't have the opportunity to pay back the team that employed him from 2004-05.With Young back under center, Oakland's inability to rush the passer may become yet more obvious. The former first-round pick rushed for over 500 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie, and has already taken off 32 times this season.Granted, it's not an easy task to take down Young behind the line of scrimmage, no matter what kind of defensive line you have. The former Texas standout was sacked 25 times in 2006 -- the Titans, as a whole, ranked 10th in the NFL -- but for every one time he was sacked, he took off on a scramble, on average, 3.32 times for a gain of almost 7 yards every time. That means a sack is nearly as good as a forced thrown-away ball. Containment is as good as penetration. That task will be up to starting ends Derrick Burgess and Tommy Kelly. Defensive tackle Gerard Warren, who has missed the past two weeks but still leads the team with three sacks, intends on playing in Sunday's game. With Warren's return to the interior of the line, that allows Kelly to return to defensive end, where he started at the beginning of the season. It will be up to the entire line, though, along with the other seven guys on the field, to stop Tennessee's other threats on the ground. With halfback Chris Brown likely to be sidelined 6 Super Bowl Champions jersey black jersey
with an ankle injury, the Raider 'D' will see a heavy dose of the 235-pound LenDale White, along with backup Chris Henry. This season, White has rushed 114 times for 380 yards and four touchdowns (3.3 yards per attempt). Last week, Henry carried the ball 11 times for 57 yards and one TD."It will be real interesting to get Gerard back now that [Sapp's] going and Derrick [Burgess] is at the best he's been all year," head coach Lane Kiffin told the Mercury News."It will be fun to watch with all of them together."It'll be more than fun. It'll be vital to a third Raiders' win.

Hardcore Daniel C. Sachar

Got something to say?Sign Up and be the first to comment on this article! The population of Oakland, California is approximately 399,484. When the news came that Daniel C. "Hardcore" Sachar had passed away, the population shrunk to one-at least for the Raider Nation. As news spread throughout the Nation, the only person the mattered was "Hardcore"-the rest of Oakland's populace unexpectedly seemed inconsequential. The 2003 Fan-Inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame would no longer be able to attend the games of the .But he will be still there: In the screaming voices of fans. In the glaring eyes underneath the black masks and paint. In the air used to inflate the game balls. And in the hearts and memories of fans.Sachar was killed on Tuesday, March 28 on Highway 101 in Redwood City, California. Driving a Ford Focus, the 31-year-old was involved in a minor collision with two other vehicles. Shortly after, he began to push one of the cars involved in the accident out of one of the highway's traffic lanes. Then, in a turn for the worse, a Chevrolet Lumina struck and killed Sachar, who had been standing near the trunk end of his car.Unfortunately, unlike so many other privileged fans, I was never able to personally meet with "Hardcore." However, meeting the man behind the face paint wasn't a necessity to realize just how much of an impact he had on the entire Raiders' community.Daniel lived his life with the motto: "Just living out a dream, while following my team.""Following" was an understatement. The man behind the infamous number "77" was the Coliseum's heroic gladiator at home games and their brave journeyman away from the stadium. While on the road, he would sport his usual getup; and the residents of that road city would often verbalize their disapproval of him being in attendance. But behind the face paint and the rough exterior of "Hardcore," there was still a wonderful individual named Daniel Sachar. And these spiteful words of opposing fans would never get into his head-because all he was doing was "living out a dream" and "following his team." And nobody could ever take that away from him.Believe it or not, the Raiders' biggest fan wasn't raised in the Bay Area. Sachar was born on January 18, 1975, in Schenectady, NY, where he attended both high school and college. In his obituary, it was noted that he loved to cook for family and friends. If you just glanced at his picture, however, this would come across as a downright shock. But if you knew anything about his character, it would become an entirely understandable notion. He loved to be around people-posing in pictures, chatting with fans, and sharing high-fives with fellow supporters throughout the course of games.Daniel's fianc? Veronica Ukastine, would dedicate hours during the early portion of gameday to paint on the face that made him "Hardcore." But the only thing "hardcore" about Daniel Sachar was his hardcore love for the Organization: the management, the coaches, the players, and his fellow fans. In his obituary, Daniel is delicately referred to as "a gentle giant of a man with the heart of silver and black instead of gold."

Nnamdi Asomugha, Fabian Washington locked up, but in different ways

Within a 24-hour span, two cornerbacks found themselves locked up.One was locked into a one-year, $9.465 million contract; the other was locked in a Manatee County (FL) jail cell.Tuesday night, 24-year-old 10 Santonio Holmes black jersey
defensive back Fabian Washington was arrested in his residence for domestic battery. Washington was cuffed at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 14000 block of Skip Jack Loop, a community located in Lakewood Ranch.Officers arrived on the scene to see visible signs of physical abuse on the neck of Washington's girlfriend, who lives with him in the Florida residence.Washington told officers that the incident arose as a result of him "hanging out with other girls." However, he never admitted to using any physical force against his girlfriend.Washington was released from the county jail Wednesday afternoon. In a few months, as a result of this recent incident, he may find himself on the verge of being released from the Raiders. The 5-foot-11 cornerback -- a first-round pick of the team in 2005 -- lost his job to fellow corner Stanford Routt last season, who was selected 15 slots after Washington in the same draft. The ex-Nebraska standout clearly fell out of favor with first-year head coach Lane Kiffin last season. After starting 25 games in his first two NFL seasons, Washington was given the starting nod in only three contests last season, and capped off the year with just 40 tackles and one interception. Routt, on the other hand, started in 14 games after starting in just four in '05 and '06 combined.Washington is still playing under the five-year, $7.8 million contract he signed as a rookie, and is scheduled to make $750,000 next season, after earning $548,375 last year.Because the 185-pounder is still under contract and ... well ... still extremely fast, team owner Al Davis would be very reluctant to release him. However, this recent episode certainly won't help him garner much favor from the soon-to-be second-year coach Kiffin.Within 24 hours of 4 Brett Favre Purple jersey
the arrest, Washington's teammate and counterpart, Nnamdi Asomugha, was being notified by the Raiders that he'd be receiving $9.465 million to play for the team in 2008.The 26-year-old defender, who allowed just 10 catches against last season, will receive a bump in pay by $8,735,000 from the $750,000 he earned in 2007.In five seasons with the Raiders, Asomugha has registered 217 tackles, nine interceptions and 35 passes defensed in 77 games.

I do not know why she ran on me

The Steelers back to the time the curtain of steel 1970th The Raiders return to the good old days of the last seven years.
It was a shock and sanctions, a defense to stop the Steelers and wouldnt be a criminal offense, the Raiders could not be started. A week after being embarrassed by the Patriots, a year after losing in Oakland, threw James Harrison (notes) and the Raiders Steelers around like a friendly match against Park 35-3, Sunday.
Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour (white) beat Ben Roethlisberger (notes) in the jaw with his open hand, but the Steelers did not move. He shrugged his shoulders from the club with 163 yards in penalties, he pursued a liter confused Jason Campbell (notes) of the game and punish the thieves that steel did Curtain teams of the 70 opponents Sun
The Steelers (7-3), still tied with Baltimore leading AFC North have, or the loss of 43 Polamalu black jersey
the last weeks 39-26 of the local New England and motivated in recent years, losing 27-24 to Oakland all but ruined his season.
It was definitely an old school type of physical game back in the day, linebacker James Farrior (notes), he said. This is the kind of game I wanted to do a physical game and improving our performance last week.Harrison, former AP Defensive Player of the Year, has forced a lot of damage with five tackles, two sacks, one interception and a fumble done. He also took a hit of six penalties for lack of personal Steelers Campbell on the field as quarterback threw a pass
Results for calls not worry, said Harrison. If you seem to get a large number of sanctions against him, which brings together.Seymour, long one of the best defensive player NFLS Oaklands Roethlisberger hit frustration in the face as the famous quarterback threw a touchdown pass late in the second quarter Sanders.
I've never punched get a quarter and I have been in this league, said Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.
Several attackers were something Seymour said Roethlisberger, but defensive end said he was more confused by the fourth to chase him. Roethlisberger said his only comment was: I am preparing for point.Im insurance, why he ran over me, said Seymour, who recorded his team-mates I will be excused and went back was a natural reaction.I want to hear Big Ben. said anything, defensive lineman Tommy Kelly (notes), he said. We played against a defense that is very difficult today, after us, said Campbell, who was 7 of 19 for 70 yards and one interception. Once you get behind the eight ball and has all the momentum, j 'I continued to take place and it.Campbell never had a chance against a defense, the Steelers forced three turnovers, two was concerned, had six sacks and limited Darren McFadden (white) to 14 yards on 10 carries, 94 below his average. The Steelers have allowed only one rusher 100 yards in 44 games.
